There are two main themes to my research. Firstly the impact of caregiving on the health of informal caregivers. In these studies I use theoretical models from occupational psychology (e.g. Karasek’s Demand-Control Model) to examine health outcomes such as caregiver burden, anxiety and depression. , Secondly I am interested in the role of the caregiver in maintaining the health of older adults living with cardiovascular illness in the community. In these studies I use social cognitive theory (Bandura) to examine the influence of caregiver beliefs on patient health outcomes such as disability, morbidity and mortality.
